Elyne Road

You may have heard of the legend
about the wizard on the road to Bamako
Elayne Road they say:
there's an old man sitting under a tree
sometimes he is silent
and sometimes he speaks
or plays the kora
while keeping an extinguished smoking pipe
in his lips
tobbaccoless the pipe
and wordless the lips

Under the tree lies the entire wisdom of Africa
at twilight lions arrive
and roar
and vultures soar
in search of their preys
and life becomes wild
when the grey shadows and the moonlight
slowly become dominant queens of the savannah
but the old man stands still under the tree

He is a scholar
and owns the wisdom of Africa
the endless stories of ancient tribes
sitting
under a specific tree
on the road to Bamako.
Elayne Road they say
sometimes the man is silent
sometimes he speaks
and sometimes he plays
a twenty four stringed kora.
